Reformatting the Summer Reading List

Alright, the time is now. If you would like to see any changes in the Summer Reading List, either in selections offered or requirements, then you must respond. Either post your suggestions to the blog (for those of you reading a print copy, mackenglishdept.blogspot.com) or write me a note on this sheet of paper and put it in my mailbox. Or email me. Or send up a concise smoke signal.

Click here for last year's reading list. Again, if you're reading a print copy of this post, then you should find the reading list on the other side of this sheet.

I'd like to ace Allbright Court (10th grade) because it's too hard to find at bookstores, Kavalier and Clay (12th) because it is snore inducing (sorry Brian), and Jurassic Park because last year kids just wrote about what they recollected from the movie. I'll post possible 12th grade replacements later today.

I think All Quiet is too difficult for 10th grade along with Brave New World as being too difficult for 11th grade. Yes I agree in general I would stay away from any books that have popular movies because it may be too tempting for the kids to just see the movie.

i would get rid of all quiet and ABC for 10th grade and insert war of the worlds and f. 451 maybe?

9th grade-rid of monster-as mahoney teaches it in ten-- insert i don't know

11th get rid of ? i can't remember oh brave new world and the other hard one-- we need to meet--maybe next week as there is just too much
i also found a website with nysed dept regulations on summer reading i don't know if anyone saw it last year as i was not here, but it outlines reasonable requests, assignments etc.

also i think we need to contact ecpl and ask them to stock a mckinley section of summer reading if possible maybe tues am?
